Since we have been in this industry as a garage door company we get asked very regularly by our customers throughout Sussex, Kent and Surrey about roller garage doors. These are also sometimes referred to as roller shutter garage doors and the market is full of suppliers and companies offering roller doors. I offer up the following for your consideration. It is worth giving thought to the following questions when you are considering a roller door: What is the quality of the roller door you are considering? There are many companies manufacturing and selling roller doors. We repair a lot of substandard roller doors regularly and the bills are usually in the hundreds for new motors, control boxes, sensors etc. What is the experience of the fitters being used? We have specialist fitters who are well versed with any small structural changes that may need to be made to safely secure the curtain box. If you are changing from a run of the mill up and over door and the frame is being removed it can open a can of worms. What will the finish of the brickwork or garage sides be once your old door and frame is removed? We always ensure the finish to the surrounds matches the quality of the new roller door installed. All siliconing is expertly done with no smear lines or unsightly silicone showing. What happens if I haven’t got much head room? It isn’t always possible to have a roller door, but there are compact rollers on the market and we are very good at squeezing rollers into difficult and low openings. Let us come and do a survey to see what is possible. We often meet customers who have been told it is not possible. What is the warranty or guarantee on the roller door you are considering buying? We offer a range of roller doors with a range of guarantees. Not so strangely these are linked with what you pay for the roller door. We guarantee all our work for two years. How is a roller door constructed? We fit electrically operated roller doors in and around the South East. Occasionally customers do choose to have manual roller door. Most motorised roller doors have a tubular motor on the inside of the roll which is operated either by a wall box with up and down buttons or by a remote control fob. The curtains are made up from 77mm wide slats or laths. They are made from foam filled aluminum that offers a good level of insulation. They are a significant improvement on insulation value compared to a standard steel up and over garage door. The finish on the outside of the curtain can been either plastic coating, paint or foil wrap. They are resistant to any sort of weather, especially the salt from those of us who live near the sea. The lack of steel involved on the construction makes them safe from the inevitable rusting that other garage doors suffer. If you are spending under a £1,000 on a roller door make sure you know what you are buying. Do some research into the product and ask to see some of the work of the company you are choosing to do your work. I hope you found this useful.
