Turning a timber-framed carport into a garage
We get asked to work on lots of different garage types. We particularly like working on timber-framed garages that have been previously used as carports. They always present a challenge when fitting garage doors. Nothing is straight and the timber can move over time. Over the years, we have learnt how to overcome all the problems and make sure we fit the doors to an exceptionally high standard.
Timber-framed buildings like the one above have the added problem of the corner supports for the frame. This means any new garage door has to rise vertically and not protrude out of the opening.
Hörmann RenoMatic sectional garage doors
In this case, we used three Hörmann RenoMatic sectional garage doors. The RenoMatic is one of Hörmann’s premium sectional garage doors. Double skinned and insulated, and also available in both L-ribbed and M-ribbed styles in a wide range of finishes and colours, this door provides excellent quality.
Our customers often have the dilemma over whether to go with a wood effect or a colour. We find that one of the best colours to go with aging oak is a dark grey. Timber usually ends up going silver so the combination of silver and a dark grey work really well together.
We used an Anthracite CH7016 smooth Planar finish for this installation. The customer chose the modern L-ribbed design, which give the doors a classy modern look, while maintaining the charm of the timber framework.
Our customer also upgraded the automation units to fourth generation SupraMatic E operators to give him mobile phone operation via Hörmann’s BlueSecur app and Bluetooth.
