As we have often referred to in our advice articles and on our bespoke solutions page, converting twin doors into a double garage door has become a bit of a specialism for us at South East Garage Doors.
At the time of writing, we had already completed eight garage door conversions this year, but this is the biggest one we have done so far.
As with any conversion, the most important aspect is to make sure the roof, ceiling and floor above remains supported once the middle post has been removed.
This meant we needed to use multiple acrow props before installing a large RSJ steel to achieve the required support.
The building work involved in this project may put off other garage door installers, but we have the building expertise to carry out the whole job, not just the garage door installation. We also replace any facias we have disturbed, as you can see from this job, and tidy up the site afterwards.
Once the building work was finished, we installed an automated Hörmann sectional garage door. The owners can now access their garage using a remote control, which is much easier on the arms than lifting a double door!
We get multiple calls a week from people requesting conversions like this one, usually because their larger cars have outgrown the dimensions of their original twin garage openings or because they want to store other items in their garage, such as a boat.
